Liver and onions—yum!
Deposit Photos
▼ Candles flickered in the center of the wooden table. A warmth, part fire and part wine, wafted through the room. Glasses clinked, and laughter ensued—Danish hygge (coziness) at its finest. I was the lowly American enamored by the humble elegance of my Nordic hosts.
Until the food arrived.
A peculiar baking dish arrived at my place, its contents hidden by a layer of bacon interwoven like the top crust of an apple pie. But the bacon was only camouflage. My host’s serving spoon cut through the crispy top layer only to retrieve a gray-brown blob which, to my horror, landed on my plate with a gelatinous plop.
Liver pate—a tribute to frugal bygone days when no meat could be wasted—is a staple of the Danish diet and still features in the traditional cuisine. My hosts generously demonstrated how to spread the brown paste onto toast. Though the taste was less offensive than the name, my first bite of the bland gunk was my last.
I had intended to avoid a second encounter with edible animal organs for all eternity, but our rapidly warming world has me rethinking that night in Denmark. I’m beginning to think that to be responsible meat eaters, we need to go whole hog.
A new studyon the German meat industry found that if locals ate offal—including but not limited to liver, tripe, tongue, and other  innards—livestock emissions for the country would fall by as much as 14 percent. And while the study was specific to Germany, Gang Liu, lead researcher on the study, expects their results would be similar for the U.S, and other European countries.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that livestock are responsible for 14.5 percentof human-induced greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, mostly via the burps and farts of beef cattle. Meat-guzzling countries like the U.S. account for a larger proportion of that pie because we eat so much beef. But even the average German eats 132 pounds of meat per year, almost twice the world average, mostly in the form of pork.
Of course, there is an obvious approach to reducing meat-related emissions: don’t eat it at all. (▪ ▪ ▪)

Meat must only be consumed if necessary i.e where no other form of more easily digestible stuff is available e.g. in a desert or in the cold polar regions. Man is a fruitinarian ..

Hi @Rhett Bassard ... I think you will not like pork tongue stew...

My mother fixed beef tongue about once a month. I recently sent her a pic of how cost has soared to US$12.25/kg.
Pork tongue would be most welcome.

Mom also influenced my taste for chicken livers and stuffed beef heart.
When we visited her sophisticated parents in NYC, there were "sweetbreads", thymus.
As a young Boy Scout in Colorado, I tried "Rocky Mountain Oysters", beef testicles.

As an adult in Amsterdam, I discovered fantastic calves liver (and the El Guapo "coffee" shop).
On a recent motorcycle ride down the Pacific coast of Mexico, I really liked menudo (tripe), beef stomach.

But nothing compares to my favorite two words in Chennai, India: brain fry...

Well, I think your mother did know how to cook well... On the other hand, my mom never cooks anything, she does not know how to cook ☹... My grandmother took me to eat at some well-known restaurants and others not so well known, hidden rather well. Yes, I have eaten beef tongue stew, fried chicken livers with wine.
Happily I was lucky to have a housekeeper when I was a child, she really cooked very delicious things.
In my trips within the country, I have eaten many delicious things, the regional food is great, however, unfortunately I am allergic to shellfish and mollusc, and that deprives me of trying many more delicious food dishes. I remember eating a mutton-headed soup, very delicious. Also fillets of heart of grilled beef, broth of beef «criadillas», etc. Food that could be considered exotic, but is actually typical of some regions of the country.

The intake of meat to provided the primitive human being, sufficient nutrients (proteins, minerals, vitamins, etc.) to develop their brain mass, even today, the intake of meat (animal protein) during childhood, ensures a correct and healthy brain development. ⑴
The human being should eat according to the different types of teeth: incisors, canines, molars and premolars.⑵
In particular, canine teeth are designed to be able to tear flesh, as in other carnivorous animals.
A varied and balanced diet, composed of nutrients of animal and vegetable origin, will supply the human being with all the nutrients necessary for its proper development and functioning.
The problem arises when a person limits their intake of nutrients based on a single type of source, be it exclusively animal or exclusively vegetable.
There are essential nutrients that only have animal or vegetable origin, so, a varied and balanced diet is the best.

Grr....the key word in ur argument is 'PRIMITIVE'. When man was primitive everything was not available in one place. Today Venezuela provides heaps of fruits and vegetables to USA and other countries all around the year ...so u wont need meat. Surely u dont want to be still called PRIMITIVE

Grr....the key word in ur argument is 'PRIMITIVE'. When man was primitive everything was not availab ...

In fact, primitive man did not have everything in one place, agriculture and raising animals for food, had not developed in those times when humanity was just in its infancy. The primitive human had to dedicate himself to collect fruits, and he also had to go hunting, the animals did not go towards the human, but rather, the humans had to go towards the animals... But, the scientific evidences are there. The human being is omnivorous, can eat plant and animal foods, this is how mankind has evolved. ⑴
Putting Venezuela as an example of good nutrition is not a good idea, even more so when its population suffers from a generalized shortage and they have lost weight because they are malnourished. A look at the reports on this would be pertinent. ⑵
To determine, how necessary are the nutrients of animal origin, you just have to compare the growth and development of two children, one of them fed a varied diet of animal and plant nutrients, and the other child fed only plant-based nutrients... You will can clearly observe the differences between the growth and development of both children. ⑶
It is not a matter of beliefs, of believing or not believing, it is necesary and important to read and observe the scientific evidence about it... ;)

Precisely...early humans had to forage for food and that food was elusive. Sometimes veg , berries or meat. That is why humans evolved to eat anything edible. Now humans can grow what they want or import what they want. Hence they can afford to stick to sattvic (pure) foods.
I took the example of venezuela because it was dear to u. I know for sure that europe imports apples, bananas, various kinds of peaches and a vast type of berries from there. So people there may not get to eat the same. Sad but like India they seem to starve their own to feed others.
Its a myth that a vegetarian isn't as healthy as a non vegetarian. There is one reason why a person fed meat grows more brawn than a vegetarian's lean mass and that is hormones fed to the animal to pad meat. That hormone affects the human and often adversely. U can always chose to stay natural or play havoc with ur body. It is a temple not a tomb. U r free to turn it into a tomb of dead animals. The human intestine is too long and meat putrefies inside. That creates a lot of problems for the body too. If you do have to eat meat u must eat less meat and more veg roughage to clean the intestines...stuff like millets roughly ground guava, papaya , chickoos (sapotas) do great. In fact if u make rice, add red rice, jowar, bajra, nachni, corn and other millets. Not only does it help but tastes great and crunchy too. Of course one can only decide what one can eat and what one feeds the family and one has no right to tell others (read Pedro sir) what to eat and what not to ....so wont
